This site provides a brief background of myself, but is primarily designed to discuss my woodworking and woodturning.

Woodworking Philosophy

My philosophy while building any project is to design items that I would be proud to place in my own home. The ultimate goal is to meet the customer’s expectations of beauty and function while employing sound construction techniques to ensure the item becomes a family heirloom. I am not a production facility so most of the items I manufacture are one of a kind. My projects fall into four basic categories: Custom Furniture, Sea Chests and Display Cases, Segmented Woodturning, and traditional Woodturning.

Custom Furniture

Commissioning a piece of custom furniture gives the owner the unique opportunity to participate in the design as well as select the wood species and finish options. Normally, a custom furniture pieces are more expensive than similar items in a furniture store. For some people finding the perfect piece is difficult if not impossible, so commissioning a custom piece is the only answer. My pieces are built from hardwoods and hardwood veneer; I do not use pressboard or particleboard. My furniture pieces have ranged in size from cigar humidors to an entertainment center.

Segmented Woodturning

Segmented Woodturning is the art of combining, sometimes hundreds of, pieces of wood into a predetermined shape and pattern then mounting the assembly on the lathe and turning it to its final shape. In contrast to traditional woodturning or furniture construction, segmented turning has few limitations on size, shape, surface design, and wood species used.

Traditional Woodturning

During traditional Woodturning solid pieces of logs are mounted on the lathe and turned into utilitarian or artistic objects. During the turning process I strive to highlight the unique characteristics, sometimes called flaws, and grain patterns of the wood into pleasing items such as Salad Bowls, Candle sticks, Vases, Kaleidoscopes, Salt and Pepper Grinders, Rolling Pins, Trivets, and Christmas Ornaments.
